Not everyone is happy about how their teeth looks and they also tend to envy the smiles that they see from their favorite celebrities. Believe it or not, that particular celeb might not always be that happy with theirs as well. Fortunately, a branch of dentistry that is focused on improving the look of the teeth emerged. With it, many people including actors took advantage of the benefits it offers: brighter and beautiful-looking pearly whites in no time.
One procedure that has gained popularity among many people are veneers. These are thin, shell-like prostheses that are placed on the front surface of a tooth to act as cover up for imperfections. As a result, the once unsightly tooth becomes aesthetically pleasing.

Issues that can be fixed with Veneers
What makes dental veneers highly favorable is the wide array of teeth imperfections it can correct. These include:
- Discoloration that does not respond to teeth whitening
- Slight misalignment
- Excessive spaces
- Poorly shaped teeth
- Chips and cracks
Each veneer is customized per patient to make sure that it would resemble the look of adjacent structures. For it to appear as natural as possible, it uses either porcelain or composite materials. Although both aim to provide the same amazing results, there are some differences.
Composite Veneers can be completed in one sitting. The dentist uses a material similar to fillings and applies it by layer to the treated tooth. In every layer placed, a curing light is used to accelerate the hardening of the material. This process will be repeated until the desired form, length, and shape is achieved. Adjustments and polishing will be performed afterward to finalize the veneer.
Porcelain Veneers require at least two dental visits to be completed since the prosthesis needs to be created in an off-site laboratory. Unlike the former option, porcelain veneers often require the shaving of the tooth to make way for its placement. It is performed to avoid making the teeth look bulky and unnatural. Afterward, impressions of the prepared tooth will be taken since it would serve as the model for the prosthesis. While waiting for the permanent appliance, a temporary veneer will be placed to protect the exposed portion of the enamel.
At All Smiles Bethesda, aside from offering porcelain and composite materials that are of high quality, we also have branded veneers like EMAX that our patients can avail. We encourage people to have their teeth imperfections fixed with veneers for them to be able to smile to their heart’s content!
