Dentures have been around for many decades.
They have been used as a replacement for teeth. They may have been damaged due to an accident or disease. In some cases, dentures are a replacement for teeth due to poor hygiene.
These removable appliances have several purposes:
- Restores your smile
- Fills out the appearance of your face and profile
- All-natural teeth have been lost
- Eat and speak better
Not all dentures are alike. They are designed based on the dental condition of the patient. Here are five different types of dentures:
- Partial: These dentures are designed when one or more natural teeth exist in the top or bottom jaw. They are made up of false teeth with a metal piece attached to a pink-colored base. The base and metal protect the denture. They are flexible and can be easily removed.
- Traditional full: All teeth are replaced by these dentures. Traditional dentures have dental sit on your gums. They are placed after ten weeks following the removal of all the teeth.
- Custom: These are created from expensive teeth designed to look like your original teeth. You can see them before they are set in the mold. You are allowed with these dentures to make adjustments before the dentist gives them to you.
- Implant-supported: The dentist installs a dental implant to hold the denture in place. It may last for many years and is a strong foundation for the denture.
- Snap-in: They are placed on teeth to hold the dentures firmly. They have locator attachments placed within the tissue side of the snap-in denture. The attachments snap onto dental implants. They can be removed. These dentures are for patients who have no teeth, but enough bone to support a dental implant.
Dentures are crucial for people to live a normal life and maintain an attractive appearance. People missing most or all their teeth look older and unhealthy. Dentures give people a younger appearance. More importantly, dentures help them eat and speak more easily. They are typically recommended for patients who may not be able to afford dental implants.
There is no need to be embarrassed by your appearance or be unhealthy due to your lack of teeth. Call your dentist and schedule an appointment to see what denture options you have.
